There are significant upkeep and maintenance costs associated with the almost daily operation of OWEN/Ariane, which are difficult to fully cover with earnings from fishing. This may change if the Senegalese government addresses the overfishing done by European/Chinese/Russian industrial fishing factories off the coast. In the meantime, the reality is that significant funds are needed to repaint the boats every 6-9 months, pay for fuel, medical expenses and community support, as needed. Typical annual expenses are expected to range between $5,000 - $10,000 annually.
